Sports Day 2025 Information

19th May 2025

Sports Day takes place on Wednesday and below you will find all you need to know about plans for the day.
This is always a really busy day as parents and guardians join us to cheer the pupils through their races and events.

Location

Sports Day takes place on the grass in the playground. Visitors can access this area using the paths at the canteen (right of building) or School's Out (left of building).
Parents can use the car park or park on surrounding roads. If you are parking on surrounding roads, please remember to park safely, legally and considerately.

Timings

  • P1:  9.30am to 10am
  • P2:  10am to 1030am
  • P3: 11am to 1130am
  • P4: 1130am to 12pm
  • P5 to P7: 1pm to 2.30pm

Pupils in the Speech classes will join mainstream peers at the relevant times.

Going Home After

We obviously don’t encourage children to go home after their Sports Day. The only pupils going home after Sports Day will be pupils in P5 to P7 who finish at approximately 2.30pm. If you wish for your child to leave early, this must be communicated to the class teacher via Dojo in advance of the day.

Breaks and Lunches

Pupils will stay inside at break and lunch as visitors will be coming and going from the playground using both paths.

Clothing

Pupils need to wear school polo shirt, plain black shorts and trainers to school. Sweatshirts can also be worn of course. The weather is due to stay with us until the end of the week so please ensure your child has appropriate sun protection.

Ice Cream Van

An Ice cream van will be onsite all day until approx. 2.30pm

Pupils are not to get ice-cream after their races.

The van will be back for everyone including staff to get an ice-cream during the last week of term. If parents want to buy an ice-cream for their child they do so at the end of school (1.45pm for P1 to P3) or the end of Sports Day (2.30pm for P5 to P7)

P4

Pupils in P4 are the only ones remaining in the building after 2.30pm

There are a couple of options for parents of P4 children that teachers will be communicating.

  1. Children can be collected with siblings at 1.45pm (P1 ro P3) or 2.30pm (P5 to P7)
  2. Collect your child early at 2pm
  3. Normal end of day at 3pm

Please let P4 teachers know via Dojo if you are planning to collect your child early.

Have Fun
Please remember that this day does not qualify children for the Olympics, the World Athletics Championships or even the NI Athletics Finals Day.

It's a day that is all about participation, competition and fun. Some will win their races and some won't - in Castle Gardens we encourage everyone to try their best and we support all participants who are doing just that.

We know that all visitors on Sports Day do that as well.
