Somme Education Project

On Wednesday morning P7 pupils were treated to a fantastic talk by Nicky Gilmore, a local historian, who came in to introduce us to the project all about WW1 and The Somme. This was part one of the project and pupils are already looking forward to our planned visit to The Somme Centre next Thursday, 6th March, and then to The Clandeboye Estate and Helen's Tower on 20th March, when Nicky will once again guide us round and give us more local knowledge about who was involved in the war from here. Most striking was the fact that people from both sides of the community fought together, side-by-side, during WW1. Pupils had the opportunity to see some of the war uniforms and guns and ammunition that would have been used. Such a worthwhile and educational visit!
