P7 visit The Somme Museum
17th Feb 2026
On Tuesday morning P7 enjoyed a trip to The Somme Museum as part of The Somme Programme, organised by Ards and North Down Borough Council. We were joined once again by St. Finian's P7 class and we were guided around the museum by local volunteers, learning more about the Battle of the Somme and the significance of local soldiers from both the 36th Ulster Division - the Ulster Volunteer Force and the 16th Irish Division - the Irish Volunteer Force in this battle.
We will complete this programme when we go to visit the training fields that these soldiers used at Clandeboye Estate later in March. But today was certainly a very educational and interactive session for all of our P7 pupils, learning more about this important period in our history and how soldiers from both sides of our community fought side by side. Many thanks to ANDBC for organising this and funding all the transport costs etc. and thanks also to those at The Somme Museum for a great morning!
