P5 Step Back in Time at the Ulster Museum

27th Feb 2026

Yesterday, Primary 5 enjoyed an exciting and long-awaited visit to the Ulster Museum as part of our topic on Ancient Egypt.

The trip had originally been planned earlier in the term but was rescheduled due school being closured during the recent storm. Despite the delay, the children’s enthusiasm certainly hadn’t faded! From the moment we arrived, there was a real buzz of excitement.

One of the highlights of the day was seeing the museum’s famous Egyptian mummy, Takabuti. The pupils were fascinated to learn that Takabuti was a young woman who lived in Thebes (modern-day Luxor) around 2,600 years ago. They were amazed to discover how scientists have used modern technology to learn more about her life, health and even how she died.

As they explored the Egyptian gallery, the children impressed museum staff with their knowledge of hieroglyphics, mummification, and ancient Egyptian beliefs about the afterlife. It was wonderful to see their classroom learning brought to life through real artefacts and interactive displays.

Although the storm may have delayed us, it certainly didn’t dampen our spirits. The trip was a fantastic experience, and P5 returned to school full of stories, questions, and a renewed excitement for history!
