Girls Reach Cup Quarter Finals

17th Apr 2026

The Castle Gardens Primary School girls’ hockey team enjoyed an impressive outing at Ulster Hockey’s McCloy Finals Day, held on Tuesday.

The team made a strong start in the group stages, recording two convincing 2–0 victories over Ballymena Model and Limavady Central. A hard‑fought 1–0 win against Cookstown Primary secured qualification for the Cup quarter‑finals, where they faced Strandtown Primary School from Belfast.

Strandtown, who would go on to finish as tournament runners‑up, scored early in the match to bring Castle Gardens’ campaign to an end.

Throughout the season, the girls demonstrated exceptional effort, determination and skill. A top‑eight finish across Northern Ireland, and the highest‑placed school from the Ards and North Down area, was a well‑deserved reward for their commitment and teamwork.

I would like to thank Mrs Kennedy for all her assistance with coaching sessions, as well as to the parents who supported the team throughout the competition.

The squad representing Castle Gardens Primary School at the NI Finals was: Willow Wolsey, Niamh Greer, Logan Robinson, Sofia Barry, Caitlin McConnell, Silvana Kennedy, Anna Corrie, Elsie Gilmour, Kayleigh Holmes and Sophie Knox.
