Daily Mile Trial for P5 to P7

21st Oct 2016

Dear Parent

Next week I would like to see how well we can incorporate pupils taking part in a daily mile type event.

This is an initiative that has been proven to have a positive impact on behaviour, concentration as well as pupil health. Another benefit is that it’ll sharpen up our cross country team and make them a bit more competitive for the next round of the league but will also give other pupils, including those in P5 have the chance to earn selection.

I would like to investigate this further next week to see what the logistical implications for our school  would be.

Next week, Monday to Thursday, straight after break, I plan to keep the P5 to P7 pupils in the playground and let them run round school (in a structured way!)

Starting at the back playground where the children line up, those wanting to be considered for the cross country team will be asked to do 4 laps of the school grounds whilst others will be given a time limit of 10 mins to either run or walk around the school.

The first 8 boys and first 8 girls will be selected for the cross country team using their finishing positions.

Pupils wear their uniform and trainers because if this is to be a practical option in the future we can’t be changing into PE kit on a daily basis.

Hopefully I can count on your support as we attempt this next week as it will have many benfits for your child.

If however you do not wish your child to participate, please send me a note on Monday to let me know.
