Busy Week For Our Hockey Teams

14th Mar 2023

yesterday morning the girls hockey team took part in the Ulster Hockey McCloy Cup qualifiers at Regent House.

An unfortunate 1-0 defeat in our first game against Andrews was following by a 2-0 defeat against Balyholme who went on the reach the semi-finals.
In the final group game, trailing 2-0 to Towerview, the girls fought back to draw 2-2 with goals from Lily M and Charlotte K.

Finishing third in their group, the girls then took part in two classification matches. Facing off against Andrews and Sullivan prep, they drew 1-1 in both games with a goal each for Charlotte and Lily.

This was a fantastic morning of hockey, played in some really challenging conditions. Well done everyone and thanks to the parents who helped with lifts and support.

This morning it was the turn of our boys to take part in the Ulster Hockey Pearson Cup qualifiers at Regent House.

In bitterly cold conditions, including a light dusting of snow, the boys faced off against 5 teams - Sullivan, Killinchy, Academy, Towerview and Andrews.

A 1-0 defeat in the first game against Sullivan was followed by consecutive victories against Killinchy (2-0) and Academy (3-0).
A hard fought game against Towerview finished 0-0 before the boys rounded off their group games with a 2-0 against Andrews.

The superb defensive efforts of James in goal and Logan and Chrissy in defense meant we finished in joint second place in the group with Towerview, narrowly beating them on goal difference to set up a semi-final with Ballyholme.

In the semi, two early goals for Ballyholme, and a scrappy third in the closing moments, returned a flattering score for the eventual tournament winners.

The third placed match ended in a 1-0 victory for our boys with Oliver scoring to finish the day as our top scorer, just ahead of Daniel and Calvin.

Although the team narrowly missed out on qualification for the NI finals day at the end of march, the boys should be incredibly proud of their efforts. They overcame broken sticks, gumshield dramas and four seasons of weather in one morning to return the best hockey result by our school in a very long time.

Thank-you again to all the parents who assisted with lifts and stayed to support through some pretty grim conditions.
