Primary 6 Pupils Celebrate Viking Day
Primary 6 pupils have been busy celebrating Viking Day as they near the end of their Viking topic. Boys and girls took part in traditional Viking themed activities during the morning, the girls busy baking bread while the boys were helping out on the 'farm' with manual labour. Both boys and girls then enjoyed a spear throwing contest to test their accuracy and mimic the difficulty of hunting. Children enjoyed making Viking brooches and shields from clay before then completing their day by taking part in a series of Viking 'raids' from classroom to classroom. As part of their learning, children have had the opportunity to consider how life has changed over the past one thousand years.
It's always great to speak to our children about their learning experiences and today's event proved extremely popular:
"The raids were fun this morning but making the bread was very smelly." (Lucy)
"Viking Day was a lot of fun. I personally liked raiding classrooms and taking slaves for our auction." (Lily)
"The Viking raids, spear throwing and farming were amazing. I really enjoyed having Viking Day." (Archie)
"I really enjoyed the raiding because we stole pupils from other classes. I liked the shield I made from clay." (Max)
"I enjoyed using clay to make shields and going on classroom raids to steal slaves." (Clara)
"It was lots of fun; we went raiding classes and I really enjoyed the spear throwing." (Jack)
